Preheat oven to 300°. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan. Set aside. In large bowl, cream butter and shortening until well-blended. Add sugar gradually until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. In a separate bowl, sift then measure flour. Add salt and baking powder.
Combine milk and flavoring in a measuring cup. With mixer on low speed, add flour mixture alternately with milk to butter mixture. Begin and end with flour. Pour batter into pan. Bake 1 1/2 hours or until a tester inserted in cake comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool in pan on wire rack before inverting on plate to serve.
