Blend together shortening, 1/2 cup sugar and egg in a large bowl; set aside. In another large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add to shortening mixture alternately with milk; stir until moistened. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden. Combine cinnamon and remaining sugar. Roll hot muffins in melted butter and then in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
