Whisk together eggs and milk in a small bowl; set aside. In a large shallow bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and spices. Add egg mixture to flour mixture to make a thin batter. Dip bread slices into batter. Heat drippings, if using, or non-stick vegetable spray on a griddle over medium heat. Fry bread slices on both sides until golden. Serve with maple syrup.
