Salad:
Wash broccoli and cut tops into bite-size florets. Drain well. Soak raisins in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes; drain. Combine broccoli, raisins, grapes, and green onions in a large bowl. Add cheese, if desired.
Dressing:
Mix mayonnaise, sugar and vinegar together. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add to broccoli mixture. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours. At serving time, add bacon and almonds and toss again.
