In small bowl beat eggs, half-and-half, nutmeg, pineapple, and brown sugar. Place bread in single layer in 9x11-inch glass baking dish (may need an extra dish). Pour egg mixture over bread, lifting to let liquid run under bread. Refrigerate overnight.
In the morning melt 2 tablespoons butter in frying pan. Add 3 or 4 slices bread and cook over moderate heat until golden brown on each side. Melt 2 more tablespoons butter and cook remaining slices. Dust with powdered sugar; serve with syrup.
