In a large bowl, blend butter and brown sugar together with an electric mixer set on medium speed. In a small bowl, combine milk, vinegar and vanilla; add to butter mixture. Blend well. Beat in flour, baking soda and salt. Reduce mixer speed to low; add oats a little at a time until mixture resembles pie dough. Shape dough into a 2-inch diameter log. Wrap dough with wax paper and freeze for at least 2 hours. Cut dough in 1/4-inch slices; place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Place cookies on wire racks to cool. Spread one teaspoon of desired flavor jam on half the cookies. Top with remaining cookies to make sandwiches.
Animal crackers and cocoa to drink, that is the finest of suppers I think. When I am grown and can have what I please, I think I shall always insist upon these.
