In a medium bowl, combine coconut and butter. Reserve 2 tablespoons coconut mixture. Press remaining mixture against bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate forming a firm, even crust. Chill.
In a large bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice, fruit cocktail, almonds, and cherries until blended. Fold in whipped topping. Pour into coconut crust. Garnish with reserved coconut mixture and additional fruit if desired. Chill 4 hours or until set.
