Cream shortening and butter. Add sugar and mix well. Add eggs and mix. Sift flour with salt and soda and add to creamed mixture with flavoring and nuts. Don’t add any more flavoring because 1/8 teaspoon gives a fine walnut taste.
Drop by half teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake in a moderate (350°) oven for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
