Fun Fact: Donn Beach, best known as Don the Beachcomber, is considered to have single-handedly transformed the hospitality industry in Hawaii in the 1940s and 1950s through his creation of the International Market Place, and his successful Polynesian-theme restaurants. Donn invented more than 80 tropical drinks including the Mai Tai, the Zombie, Missionary’s Downfall, and the Beachcomber’s Daiquiri. The Zombie was considered the most lethal tropical drink ever created, and customers in Donn’s bar were limited to two. To protect his recipes, Donn wrote them in code, and his bartenders had to follow coded symbols for the ingredients.
