Cut squash in half, clean out seeds, brush cut surfaces with oil, and bake cut side down on greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Turn squash cut side up and continue baking until squash is tender when pierced with pointed knife. Baking time ranges from 45 minutes for small squash, to 1 hour or longer for larger squash. Cut through skin into serving size pieces and serve with butter (or margarine) and salt and pepper to taste.
