Bake pie crust in very hot oven (450°) until baked but not browned. Cream butter, sugar, and egg yolks together. Add cornmeal mixed with cream and vanilla. Fold in egg whites beaten with salt until stiff. Pour into baked shell and cook in hot (400°) oven for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to 350° and bake 1–2 minutes longer or until filling is just set. If top browns before filling is set, put a piece of aluminum foil over top and complete baking. Serve pie while slightly warm.
