Fun Fact: Greenville, Mississippi, is the birthplace of James Maury “Jim” Henson (September 24, 1936–May 16, 1990) the most widely known puppeteer in American television history. Henson was the leading force behind the long running television series Sesame Street and The Muppet Show and films such as The Muppet Movie (1979) and The Dark Crystal (1982). The prototype for his most famous character, Kermit The Frog, was created from a green coat that Henson’s mother had thrown into a refuse bin, and two ping-pong balls for eyes.
