Melt 2 tablespoons butter or margarine in large skillet add onion, pepper, and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until limp. Add Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, dry mustard, salt, catsup or chili sauce, and vinegar simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes to blend flavors. Add beef and simmer until hot and bubbly.* To serve, split buns, spread lightly with soft butter or margarine and toast under broiler. Spoon hot meat sauce over buns and serve with pickles.
* At this point, mixture can be cooled, covered, and refrigerated up to 24 hours. If mixture becomes too thick, thin with tomato juice or beef broth.
