Bondurant Bread Pudding

Ingredients

1 loaf French bread, sliced
2 quarts low-fat milk
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups dark raisins
1/4 pound unsalted butter, melted

Whiskey Sauce:
1/4 pound butter
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup boiling water
1 egg
1/4 cup whiskey

Directions:

Soak bread in milk; crush by hand until well mixed and crumbled. Beat eggs in a separate bowl; gradually add sugar, vanilla, and raisins. Mix well. Pour butter into bottom of a shallow 3-quart baking pan. Add egg mixture to bread/milk combination and blend together until fully soaked. Pour into pan, allowing butter to rise to the top. Bake at 325° for 1 hour or until firm and slightly golden. Allow to cool. Serve with Whiskey Sauce.

Whiskey Sauce:
In top of double boiler, cream together butter and sugar. Beat in boiling water. Stir constantly until sugar is dissolved. Beat egg separately and add slowly to mixture. Stir and cook 2–3 minutes. Allow mixture to cool before adding whiskey.
