While Mary Rowell was teaching second grade, she worked with her students for four-and-a-half years to get Grandparents' Day, first for the state of Missouri and then for all the grandparents in the United States.
She was willing to give up a twenty-three-year teaching career to take care of her sister, Kathy, after both of their parents died of cancer. Kathy has Downs Syndrome.
She keeps the bowling scores for the handicapped. That is where we met. On August 12, 1989, we were married and she took on the role of wife and mother to my mentally retarded daughter. Mary treats her like she is her own daughter.
She got a traffic light installed in our neighborhood and a streetlight installed on our street. That took a lot of letter writing and stamps.
She is a member of the Care-Giving Ministry at our church. She fixes delicious meals for members who are sick, have a family member die, or have a new baby. It was her idea to adopt a boy at our church as our grandson.
Her favorite product is Betty Crocker's angel food cake mix because our family and friends enjoy the sugarless dessert that she makes with it. Her favorite recipe right now is Strawberry Angel Food Cake.
