My wife, Susana, embodies the qualities of a trusted friend that one can come to for a recipe, for help, or to discuss a problem in confidence.
Susana enjoys cooking and baking. She is an excellent cook, blending her traditional foods and seasonings with the international flavors she has experienced since coming to America. Somehow she is able to retain the original flavor of the foods so that they are not lost, but are combined into a new mosaic of sensations. She has recently taught herself to bake, because she grew up in houses without ovens. I often come home to the warm fragrance of bread in the oven.
Susana enjoys her involvement in the community. Two evenings every week she volunteers her time, serving as a teacher of English as a second language to new immigrants at the local high school. She also helps orient young people to some of the problems and complexities of living in America. Susana also has been helping at the elementary school by translating the school's Parent's Handbook into Spanish.
My wife is a loyal and trusted friend and a calm, patient, and caring mother. She encourages the best in all of us, gives support during hard times, and is playful and loving.
