Bring salt pork to a boil in water and scald; drain and fry well in shortening. Add onion and fry lightly; add bell pepper, okra, and tomato sauce; cook at medium heat for about 15 minutes. Add corn, lima beans, and sugar; cook 1/2 hour on low heat. If mixture becomes too thick, add water as needed.
