1. In large bowl combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in walnuts. Firmly press 2 3/4 cups of the flour mixture onto bottom of ungreased 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan. Set aside.
2. Stir cinnamon, baking soda and salt into remaining flour mixture. Stir in sour cream, egg substitute and vanilla. Fold in apples. Spread over crumb mixture in baking pan.
3. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Serve warm sprinkled with powdered sugar or reduced-fat whipped topping, if desried.
