Pearl sugar is available in the gourmet section of grocery stores.
1 7/8 cups margarine
2 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 5/8 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup water warm
4 teaspoons almond extract
1 cup almonds sliced
1/2 cup sugar pearl
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease well two 9-inch or three 8-inch round cake pans. Cream margarine and sugar till fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time till light and fluffy, about 7 to 10 minutes. Sift flour and baking powder, and add to creamed mixture alternately with water and almond extract. Pour batter into baking pans, and sprinkle tops with sliced almonds and pearl sugar. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until cake tests done. Remove from oven and invert on wire rack to cool. Store in covered cake container or cover with foil or plastic wrap.
