1 pound pork sausages bulk
1/2 pound ground beef
3/4 cup onions chopped
3/4 cup green bell peppers chopped
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 1-pound can tomatoes
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1 1/2 cups pasta shells
1 cup sour cream
Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Brown meat and drain off excess fat. Add onion and green pepper; sauté until tender but not brown. Stir in sugar, salt, chili powder, tomatoes, tomato sauce and cover. Simmer about 25 minutes. Cook shell macaroni 3 minutes less than package instructions, so it is barely tender. Stir shells and sour cream into meat mixture. Continue cooking for 15 minutes. If desired, serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
