Flake tuna and combine with pickle relish, celery, mayonnaise (may substitute with salad dressing or yogurt), and lemon juice. Toss with lettuce season to taste.
Note: Many different vegetables such as green pepper, chopped onion, grated carrot, radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, or avocado may be added to salad. Or fruits such as chopped or drained crushed pineapple, grapes, or apple, or nuts (toasted almonds or pecans) may be added.
Variations
Chicken or Turkey Salad: Use 1 cup diced cooked chicken or turkey in place of tuna fish. Use any of suggested variations.
Tuna Salad Sandwiches: Makes enough filling for 4 sandwiches. Any desired variations may be used in the sandwiches.
Grilled Tuna Sandwiches: Omit lettuce. Spread tuna filling evenly onto four slices of bread top with four more slices of bread. Butter outside of bread generously and saute on both sides on medium hot griddle or skillet or cook in sandwich grill. Serve hot.
Chicken or Turkey Salad Sandwiches: Recipe for chicken or turkey salad makes enough filling for 4 sandwiches. Any desired ingredients may be added.
