Blue Knoll Cheesy Apple Egg Bake

Ingredients

2 cups sliced, peeled Granny Smith apples
2 tablespoons cinnamon-sugar
6 slices crisp-cooked bacon, crumbled
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
2 cups milk
6 eggs
2 cups baking mix

Directions:

Layer apples, cinnamon-sugar, bacon, and cheese in order listed in a 9x13-inch baking dish sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Whisk milk and eggs in a bowl until blended. add baking mix and stir until smooth. Pour egg mixture over prepared layers. bake at 375° for 40 minutes or until set. Serve with warm maple syrup.

Editor's Extra: To make your own cinnamon-sugar, combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon. Store in a clean spice jar with a shaker top.


Fun Fact: Contrary to popular belief, there is no mention in the bible of the apple being the forbidden fruit that was eaten by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The fruit is referred to as “fruit of the tree of Knowledge of Good and evil,” with no specification as to which kind of fruit. The apple was first implicated as the forbidden fruit in Hugo van der Goes’ 1470 painting, The Fall of Man. After that, it continued to be known and depicted as the forbidden fruit.
