Grilled fresh bratwurst has inspired several great dishes, and even more lively discussions on the best way to prepare them. Nowhere does the brat debate rage hotter than on the hallowed grounds of Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. Packers fans are some of the most enthusiastic--and opinionated--brat eaters in the world. As the parking lot fills with smoking grills on game day, you'll hear some spirited exchanges: Which comes first, the simmering beer bath or the grill marks? Onions or sauerkraut or both? Which brand of mustard? Did you say ketchup? Utter heresy! And the beer of choice to wash it all down? Don't even go there.
Far be it from us to put forth the "definitive" method for grilling bratwurst (we'd lose friends either way). But for you beginners, here's a simple recipe to start with that won't leave you cold.
