_Maintenance Tips

Serves: 5

Ingredients

Directions:

CHARCOAL GRILLS

Cooking Grates.
After each use, remove debris using a brass-bristle brush. As needed, remove from the grill and wash with warm, soapy water or a soap-embedded steel wool pad.

Inside Lid.
Periodically, while the lid is warm but not hot, wipe with a paper towel. You may use a mild soap and water solution. With extreme build-up, gently use a soap-embedded steel wool pad. Don't use oven cleaner--those fumes can be dangerous and are highly flammable.

Outside Surfaces.
Periodically wash with warm, soapy water. To return some of the shine, nontoxic glass cleaner may also be used.

Vents And Ash Catcher.
Periodically clean with a mild soap and water solution. With extreme buildup, a soap-embedded steel wool pad may be used. For the ash catcher, first dump out cold ashes into the trash.

Smoke Stains On The Lid.
Smoke stains may appear at edges of the lid or around the vents. These stains are black or reddish brown and may look like rust. A soapy scrub pad used very gently on the porcelain should remove the stains.

GAS GRILLS

Flavorizer® Bars (Or Burner Tents) And Cooking Grates.
Periodically remove debris using a brass-bristle brush. If necessary, remove from the grill and wash with warm, soapy water. Avoid using any cleaning products with chemicals!

Bottom Tray.
Periodically remove excess grease that might have accumulated in the bottom tray (to prevent grease fires) and replace the catch pan liner. Use a putty knife to carefully scrape off excess accumulation, then wash the bottom tray with warm, soapy water. A brass-bristle brush can be used for easier cleaning.

Inside Cooking Box.
Periodically use a putty knife and a steel-bristle brush to remove excess grease. Wash the inside of the cooking box with warm, soapy water.

Inside Lid.
While the lid is warm but not hot, clean with a paper towel, soapy scrub pad, or brass-bristle brush .

Outside Surfaces.
Periodically wash with warm, soapy water.

Worktables And Accessory Trays.
To clean wooden or plastic tables after use, wipe with warm water using a rag or sponge. If the barbecue is older and needs refinishing, sand it down with fine sandpaper and restain it with a water-based stain. Once it is dry, seal it with a water-based sealant.

Check For Gas Leaks.
Check for gas leaks every time you disconnect and reconnect a gas fitting. Do not use an open flame to check for gas leaks. Use a soap and water solution. Be sure there are no sparks or open flames in the area. Perform a gas leak check even if your grill was dealer- or store-assembled. Check the hose for nicks, cracking, abrasions, and cuts.

Always Store The LP Tank Outdoors.
Do not store a spare or disconnected LP tank under or near the grill. The gas must be turned off at the LP tank when the grill is not in use. If the grill is stored indoors, the gas supply must be disconnected and LP tanks must be stored outdoors.
