In a large soup pot over medium heat, brown ribs in oil for 6 to 8 minutes; drain. Add remaining ingredients except bread and rice; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer for 1-1/2 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Stir in bread and serve over rice or noodles.
