Ingredients

1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 (4-ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
1 pepper to taste
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 (8-ounce) package wide egg noodles, cooked and divided
1 (8-ounce) package shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Directions:

Cook ground beef, onion and mushrooms in a large skillet over medium heat; drain. Stir in garlic salt, pepper, sugar and sauces; simmer over low heat for 30 minutes. Layer half the noodles in a greased 2-quart casserole dish. Follow with a layer each of sauce and shredded cheese. Repeat layers. Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes.

Tip: So many favorite comfort-food recipes begin with pasta or noodles. The secret to perfectly cooked pasta is to use plenty of cooking water…about a gallon per pound of pasta, in a very large pot.
