Soak bread in water; tear into pieces. Combine meat, eggs, bread, onion and seasonings; form into 2-inch balls. Brown meatballs in a large skillet over medium heat, turning to cook evenly on all sides. Drain; transfer to a slow cooker and set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth. Cook until heated through and pour over meatballs. Cover and cook on low setting for 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes.
Tip: Watch for old cast iron skillets at barn sales…they're worth their weight in gold. Often they just need a light scrub, then re-season by brushing lightly with oil and baking at 350 degrees for one hour. Let cool in the oven…all ready to use!
