1 loaf french bread
1 clove garlic
1/2 cup butter softened
Slash bread in even 1 1/2-inch slices, making cuts on the bias without cutting clear through. In small bowl mash garlic thoroughly; remove garlic. In same bowl, cream softened butter or margarine so that it absorbs the garlic juice that is left in bowl (or blend 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder into butter or margarine.) Spread mixture generously between slices. Wrap loaf in aluminum foil. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 30 minutes or until hot. Makes 20 slices.
