1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 2/3 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 squares unsweetened baking chocolate, melted
2 1/4 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk
1/2 cup walnuts chopped
1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
Cream shortening and sugar together till light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Add melted chocolate. Add flour and salt alternately with milk. Stir in nuts. Chill thoroughly 3 to 4 hours or overnight. Form into 1-inch balls and roll each ball lightly in powdered sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet about 2 to 3 inches apart. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from pan. Continue cooling on wire rack. Makes 45 cookies.
