Layered Cream-Cheese Brownies |

1 8-ounce package cream cheese softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1 cup water
1 cup margarine
5 tablespoons cocoa
2 squares sweet baking chocolate
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups flour
Whip cream cheese, sugar, egg, and milk till fluffy; set aside. In small saucepan, heat water, margarine, cocoa, and chocolate till melted. In large mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar. Mix in chocolate-water mixture, then add buttermilk, baking soda, vanilla, and flour; mix well. Pour half of batter into a 12x17-inch greased cookie sheet. Spoon cream cheese mixture evenly over top of batter. Pour remaining chocolate batter over cream cheese. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool. Spread with Cream Cheese Icing (recipe in this cookbook). Makes 42 2x2 1/2-inch brownies.
