1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups flour, sifted
15 red maraschino cherries
15 red maraschino cherries or green
Cream butter, shortening, and sugar. Add almond extract and flour; blend well. Shape dough into balls, using 1 tablespoon of dough for each cookie. Place on greased cookie sheet. Make indentation in center of each cookie and press maraschino cherry into top. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Store in covered container. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
