Sauté onions and garlic in olive oil in skillet until light brown. Add tomatoes and season with pepper.
Cook beans in salted water in a saucepan for 5 minutes; drain. Add tomato mixture and cover. Simmer 30–60 minutes or until done to taste, removing cover toward end of cooking time. Adjust seasonings.
