Mix dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Add eggs, shortening, and buttermilk; mix until dry ingredients are moistened. Store in covered container in refrigerator. For muffins, fill greased muffin pans 2/3 full and bake at 400° for 15–20 minutes. Batter keeps for 6 weeks.
