Cook string beans according to package directions. Drain. Make a cream sauce by melting butter over low heat and adding onion, flour, sugar, salt, and sour cream. In a 2 1/2-quart casserole, layer beans, sauce, cheese, and almonds. Repeat layers. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
