Preheat oven to 350°. In bowl, combine wafer crumbs and brown sugar. Stir in butter. Press in 9x13-inch pan. Bake for 8 minutes.
Heat butter and brown sugar in pan over medium heat until boiling. Boil 1 minute. Pour immediately over cookie base and spread to edges. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Let stand 2 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips (mini-chips work best). Let stand for 2–3 minutes. Then spread chips. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Editor's Extra: Once I forgot to bake these before I sprinkled on the chips, so it was ruined, right? Wrong! It all got eaten and raved over! But the right way is even better.
Fun Fact: Did you know that chocolate morsels are made from only four ingredients? They are: chocolate liquor, sugar, cocoa butter, and vanilla. Morsels keep best when stored in a cool, dry place. When exposed to temperature changes, the surface of the morsels can develop a whitish film, called the “bloom,” which is actually just fine traces of melted cocoa butter that have hardened again—it won't affect the flavor or performance of the chocolate.
