1. Melt butter in saucepan over medium-high heat and add onion sauté 5 minutes. Add flour stir for 5 minutes. Pour in heavy cream add salt and pepper.
2. Use whisk to blend well and simmer for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, heat tomato juice to boiling, add soda, then add to cream sauce mixture. Add bay leaf and continue to simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf. Serve in hot bowls with 2 thin slices of ripe avocado floating on top of each.
