Crust:
In medium bowl, sift flour and salt; cut in margarine until crumbly. Gather into ball using water to make crumbly dough stick together. Roll between 2 squares of waxed paper to a round that will line a pie pan completely, or line a spring form pan within 1/2 inch of edge.
Filling:
Combine bacon, cheese, and onion; place in pastry-lined pie pan or spring form pan. Beat eggs lightly and add remaining ingredients. Beat until well blended. Pour egg mixture over other contents. Bake at 350° for 1 hour; test. If quiche is still soft in middle, add 15 minutes baking time, or bake until tester comes out clean. Let stand for 10 minutes and cut into wedges. Serve with fruit.
Fun Fact: As telephone, telegraph, and electrical wire was strewn throughout the country at the end of the 19th century, huge copper mines in the area around Anaconda, Montana (near Butte), provided the necessary materials to build these lines. Marcus Daly, founder of Anaconda, built his own copper smelter just outside of town, which attracted thousands of workers from around the world. The Anaconda Stack, over 585 feet high and 75 feet interior diameter, is one of the tallest freestanding brick structures in the world and the only remnant of the huge copper smelting plant. The site is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
