Sift dry ingredients together. Add butter and cut in well. Add beer, but make sure it is not cold, even a little warm will help. (The cold will drastically slow down the "rise.") If you need more moisture to make a good dough, add a little warm water.
In a greased bowl, set in a warm place to rise for several hours, covered with a towel. Put in a well-greased bread pan and bake at 350° for approximately an hour.
Note: You can brush the top with butter or egg during the last 15 minutes of baking, and it will make a nice crisp crust.
