Heat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch pan. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, nuts, butter, and egg at low speed until crumbly. Press mixture into prepared pan. Spread with preserves. Bake 20–25 minutes, or until edges are light brown.
Make glaze with remaining ingredients, mixing until smooth. If needed, add additional water, a drop at a time, for desired consistency. Drizzle over warm shortbread. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
