Cream butter and shortening. Gradually add sugars, beating at medium speed until mixed well. Add egg and beat well. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in vanilla. Add white chocolate and nuts, and mix. Chill dough 1 hour.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350°. Drop dough by 2 tablespoonfuls, 3 inches apart, onto lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 10–12 minutes; cookies will be soft. Cool slightly on baking sheet. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
