I am eighty-three years old and I still make bread, rolls, cakes, cookies, and pastries, besides cooking for my husband. I do enjoy the Betty Crocker cake, muffin, cookie, and frosting mixes. I love to share all these goodies with my family, neighbors, and friends and at church functions. My husband and I live on a ten-acre farm and have five children, all married, with twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren.
Ever since I was small child, I have always loved to cook and bake. My mother taught my four sisters and me how to cook and be good homemakers. I have made cake, cookies, pastries, and candy since I was six years old.
I have been a 4-H supervisor and leader for fifty-nine years. I have taught many, many boys and girls to cook, sew, finish furniture, garden, preserve food, and raise animals. These children have won countless blue ribbons and medals with their 4-H projects. Through the 4-H program, my clubs have completed numerous community projects, which include planting trees, shrubs, and flowers in the city park and cemetery, painting fences in the city park, and raising funds to build a drinking fountain.
I love to share my vegetables from my garden with my family, friends, and neighbors, and I give away the eggs from my fifteen laying hens so others may have fresh eggs to use in their baking with Betty Crocker. My favorite product is the Betty Crocker German chocolate cake mix. I have made German chocolate cakes for birthdays, funerals, family parties, church activities, and I still make them for Sunday dinners.
I was named Citizen of the Year in West Jordan, and I was also named Vital Volunteer for dedicated service to youth in Salt Lake County. I have served in church organizations for most of my life. I have been involved in the children, youth, and adult programs, being the president many times. Through the years, all these organizations have enjoyed the desserts I have made using Betty Crocker mixes and recipes.
