Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar. Add egg, and mix well. Mix and sift together flour, ginger, cinnamon, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with sour milk, in which soda has been dissolved. Add molasses. Carefully fold in blueberries, and pour batter into a greased and floured 9x9-inch pan. Sprinkle remaining 3 tablespoons sugar over batter. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 50 minutes to 1 hour. (Sugar makes sweet, crusty topping when cake is baked.)
