Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler over low heat, stirring constantly; set aside. Mix together sugar, flour and salt in a medium bowl; set aside. Combine eggs, buttermilk and vanilla in a large bowl; add sugar mixture and whisk vigorously. Stir in melted chocolate with a rubber spatula. Pour all except one cup into pie crust; discard remaining batter. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour and 15 minutes to one hour and 25 minutes, until pie is crisp on top and a knife tip is inserted in center comes out with just a bit of moist chocolate on it. Remove from oven and cool completely; let stand for one hour before serving. If not serving immediately, refrigerate. Garnish with a dollop of whipped topping.
