Melt shortening and cocoa together in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring often. Remove from heat; add 2 cups sugar. Cool slightly. Add 4 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add one teaspoon vanilla. Stir in 1-1/4 cups flour, baking powder and salt; mix well. Fold in nuts. Spread in a greased 13"x9" baking pan; set aside. Combine cream cheese, remaining sugar and eggs, vanilla and flour. Spread evenly over cocoa mixture in pan; swirl into batter with a fork, if desired. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes, until a toothpick tests clean and edges pull away from pan. Cool 10 minutes; cut into 12 large bars.
