Combine bread cubes, butter, raisins and cinnamon. Mix well; spread in a lightly greased 2-quart casserole dish. In a medium bowl, blend together sugar, eggs, vanilla and salt until sugar is dissolved. Add milk; beat well. Pour over bread mixture; let stand for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool slightly before serving. Garnish with dollops of whipped topping.
Tip: Fresh whipped cream is oh-so easy to make. Combine one cup heavy cream with 1/4 cup powdered sugar and one teaspoon vanilla extract in a chilled bowl. Beat with chilled beaters until stiff peaks form. Dollop on a big slice of cake or pie…yummy!
