In a deep skillet or saucepan over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until tender. Stir in undrained beans, milk and broth. Cook over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil, stirring occasionally. Stir in ham and peas; reduce heat to low. Simmer until heated through. Garnish individual servings with cheese, if desired.
Tip: Add a little butter to the oil when sautéing...it helps foods cook up golden and adds delicious flavor.
