Fun Fact: The Eiffel Tower, named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, is nicknamed La dame de fer, the iron lady, for its puddle iron lattice tower. It is the tallest building in Paris—1,063 feet—about the height of an 81-story building. It was built in 1889 as the entrance arch to the World’s Fair. It has become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world.
