In Dutch oven cook onion in butter.
Stir in soup, sour cream, cheese and spices. Gently fold in potatoes.
Top with topping, cover then put 15 to 20 hot charcoal coals on lid of Dutch oven and place on low heat.
Cook for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove and cook with coals only for 20 more minutes. Rotate lid while cooking and checking often.
This can be done with no coals on top but topping will not brown or be as crisp.
