Cook sugar, butter & syrup until syrupy in small saucepan. Pour into 9x13" baking dish. Spread apple slices over syrup. Placed sliced bread on top of apples.
Whisk together remaining ingredients and pour over the bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes at 350ºF. Cut into squares or serve each slice. Syrup optional.
