Cut French bread and set aside to allow slices to dry a little.
Using a wire whip, whip eggs, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder and milk together.
Add flour a little at a time and continue whipping batter as you do so.
Dip a slice of bread quickly on both sides, allowing excess batter to drip off. Do not soak! Whip batter before dipping each slice.
Place dipped bread into a medium hot skillet (I use an electric toaster oven l set at 350ยบ.).
Add your choice of fruit generously over the top of each slice. Press fruit into bread with the back of a spoon. Cover fruit with about 1 tablespoon of batter.
Turn slices when golden brown and cook fruit side until golden brown.
Serve with a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top.
